We craft our Luxury Foundation in Avocado’s GOTS organic certified facility in Los Angeles. Layers of 100% GOLS organic certified coconut husk pads and plush 100% GOTS organic certified cotton, wool, and silk ensure unparalleled breathability and sustainability. A solid wood frame with more than 100 internal metal supports evenly distributes weight. Proper Support For Your Luxury Plush Mattress
Some bed frames require a foundation to support your mattress, and some sleepers prefer the added height they provide their bed. No foundation is quite like this. Our Luxury Plush Foundation uses 100% FSC-certified poplar and layers of natural, renewable materials, like 100% GOTS organic certified cotton, silk, and wool and a 100% GOLS organic certified coconut husk pad. These materials are better for the planet — and you — while adding a luxurious, breathable touch that no other foundation can match.
100% Durable FSC Certified Poplar
Quality materials are built to last a lifetime. Poplar is a hardwood that is strong and resilient — ideal for foundations. And we exclusively use poplar from Oregon that’s certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. An FSC-certified company manages forests in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability.
Why Organic Matters
Conventional cotton is not a sustainable crop. Toxic pesticides and fertilizers used to grow cotton runoff and contaminate our rivers, lakes, and aquifers, harming human health and biodiversity. Traditional cotton also causes soil erosion and destruction, and some experts say it requires more water than any other agricultural commodity. We believe in a better way. At Avocado, we only use 100% GOTS organic certified cotton, which uses up to 90 percent less water and is grown without the use of pesticides. Our cotton is certifiably better for you, our farmers, and the planet.
Healthy, Safe, and Non-toxic
We use two layers of 100% GOTS organic certified needle punched wool in our Luxury Plush Foundation. The wool dampens any sounds or vibrations and adds comfort and support. While some companies use synthetic, potentially toxic flame retardants, we use renewable, organic wool. Wool, in addition to being breathable and thermoregulating, is a natural fire retardant. And our wool comes from our own organic farms in the Himalayas.
A Carbon Negative Company
Avocado is a Certified B Corporation and a carbon negative business. That means we work with Climate Neutral to reduce, measure, and offset more than 100% of our emissions, from resource extraction to shipping, by supporting carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change and support innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Biodegradable and Zero Waste
We believe in a circular economy that accounts for the life cycle of our products. That’s one reason we design our Luxury Plush Foundation exclusively with natural, biodegradable materials. What’s more is that our organic certified California factory, which we power entirely with renewable energy, is on its way toward a Zero-Waste certification, meaning nothing gets thrown away. We up-cycle all our material byproducts. The effort is consistent with our mission to set a new bar in environmental and social responsibility.

100% Real Wood
Hardwoods are stable, durable, and resilient, and ours come from sustainably-managed sources. No particle board or MDF — just pure, solid wood.
100% GOTS Organic Certified Cotton
For a luxurious and premium finish, we use 100% GOTS organic certified cotton canvas in a soft, natural color on the top and bottom panels. No polyester fiber is used. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India. Our organic cotton has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (15.HIN.75800, Hohenstein HTTI), to ensure no harmful substances are present as a result of processing, including banned substances, toxic chemicals, pesticides, and dyes.
100% GOTS Organic Certified Wool
The benefits of wool’s complex and natural physio-chemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture and acts as yet another all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable, non-allergenic and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we add two layers of pure, 100% GOTS organic certified needle punched wool. We do not blend any rayon, polyester, or flame retarding chemicals with our wool. Our organic wool has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI) — which requires annual lab testing to ensure no harmful substances are present as a result of processing, including banned substances, toxic chemicals, pesticides, and dyes.
100% Organic Coconut Husk Pad
We use a ½-inch layer of D80, 100% GOLS organic certified coconut husk pad, which adds breathable support, keeping the mattress — and you — cool.
Metal Supports
Internal metal supports provide even weight distribution to your mattress. Our metal supports are made in the USA from recycled steel that is melted and poured in Sterling, Illinois.
Carbon Negative
The emissions from burning fossil fuels are the leading cause of our unprecedented climate crisis. Avocado is proud to be Climate Neutral Certified for net negative emissions. We work with the nonprofit to voluntarily measure and reduce our footprint. Then we offset more than 100% of our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by supporting carbon offset initiatives through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
